Absract:
In this lecture I shall define the notion of quantum technology and its constituent parts, followed by some reflections on the technology readiness levels of quantum computers, communications, cryptography, and sensors, that is, the quantum ecosystem.
Then, I will discuss several uses and applications and cases of quantum computing and sensors in biological research and technology development, including the work of our research group in the analysis of genotype networks via quantum walks.
Finally, I will review several publications made by international organizations on the economic and societal impact of quantum technology, followed by an analysis of the role of National Quantum Initiatives, Education and Technical Training, Technical Norms, Standards, and Tools for production and education, for the advancement of quantum computing and its potential use to advance research agendas in fields like biology and chemistry.
